Mike, along with his three brothers, have quite an interesting race background. From the time any one of them can remember, cars and racing have been their life. The curiosity and need for speed started with their father Allen, who was in love with the Bonneville Salt Flats from the moment he saw Sir Malcolm Campbell in 1935. The Bonneville Salt Flats is the purest form of non-commercial competitive high performance speed in the United States, and some would argue, the world. It is the most beautiful place in the world, too. This is where, in 1962, it became a family project to build race cars and break land speed records, 22 in all. The list is long and impressive from mustangs to lakesters, the speeds increased from 175 mph to 301 mph.
In 1973, Mike tried his talents out on stock car racing at a track which Pleasant Grove built. He was 14 at the time and without a valid drivers license, which did not stop this ambitious teen. His first car was a 1955 Mercury Montego. For the next 4 years Mike ran his stock car and had great fun.
In the 80's, the brothers went into sand drags. Lindsay drove for the first two years in a 69 Bronco and then they put Mike behind the wheel of a modified Jeep with a 351 Cleveland with a B&J 3 speed transmission. Between the 2 cars they had won over 20 events and 5 Western Sand Drag Nationals.
In 1989 and 90, Luigi Colani from France commissioned the brothers to run an array of aerodynamic cars at the Salt Flats, including a Corvette and Ferrari. Five records were set with those cars. Mike setting 2 records for the European market with the Ferrari.
1992 Mike became the permanent driver when the brothers tried their hand match racing a Top Fuel dragster at Bonneville Raceway in Salt Lake City. That was challenging and fun but the expense of running became too great. In 1996 the decision was made to run the dragster on alcohol, thus was the beginnings of the Strasburg Family Race Team. Since that time, each year's achievements have developed into the successful team of today. Mike has become a skillful driver with an excellent future in front of him. He never forgets his humble beginnings or the fact that it has taken the families support to bring him to where he is today. His mentor and hero is his father, Allen, from whom he inherited his need for speed. Allen comes to every race to cheer Mike on and give him advice.
